Goody! Let’s have a blog debate with the esteemed E.J. Dionne Jr. -
card-carrying Democrat and about as close to a far-left wing Democrat as
one could be. He also pontificates regularly at the Washington Post.
First I’ll post a segment of Mr. Dionne’s commentary and then add my rebuttal in RED.

“Here is a surefire way to cut $7.1 trillion from the deficit over the next decade. Do nothing.
That's
right. If Congress simply fails to act between now and Jan. 1, 2013,
the tax cuts passed under President George W. Bush expire, $1.2 trillion
in additional budget cuts go through under the terms of last summer's
debt-ceiling deal, and a variety of other tax cuts also go away.
Knowing this, are you still sure that a "failure" by the congressional supercommittee to reach a deal would be such a disaster?
Not
only do I know it, tuna breath, I’m predicting it. Your President
wants the super committee to fail for the exact reasons stated. The
cuts that would kick in would be among the worst possible and your
President wants to use those cuts in his re-election campaign. He will
blame Republicans for not allowing him to raise “revenue” (can’t you
ever say “raise taxes”, Jr.?), which forced the aforementioned cuts to
kick in.
In
an ideal world, of course, reasonable members of Congress could agree
to a balanced package of long-term spending cuts and tax increases to
begin bringing the deficit down, coupled with short-term measures to
boost the economy.
That’s
right. When the people are out of work and broke, raise their taxes.
That’s always a brilliant move. NOT. And just what budget do you
speak of? There hasn’t been a budget in Congress for nearly 1,000 days!
Call you pals, Jr., tell them to pass a budget (which is
constitutionally mandated) and then we’ll talk...maybe.
The
fact that you might STOP SPENDING doesn’t seem to resonate in a
Democrat’s addled mind. When you’ve dug your hole so deep you can’t get
out, STOP DIGGING!
But
genuine compromise can't happen because Republicans refuse to accept
any significant tax increases. This is not a partisan statement. It is
just a description of the facts. It is maddening that the media are so
desperate to avoid being attacked as "liberal" that they cannot describe
the situation as it is.
Republicans
refuse to accept any tax increases (especially those “significant”
ones) because that’s totally irresponsible. But you wouldn’t know
“responsible” if it walked up and bit you on the ass.
Democrats
have put huge spending cuts on the table - and keep offering more and
more and more. All the Democrats ask in return is that the cuts be
balanced by some revenue.
Notice
Jr. doesn’t tell you WHERE those proposed spending cuts are located.
If you dig a little, you’ll find they’re in the exact areas that people
like Senator Bernie Sanders is screaming bloody murder about - Social
Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. (And Senator Sanders loves him some
E.J. Dionne Jr., so much he reposts these columns on his own web site!)
Of
course those same Democrats would love to chop the Defense Department’s
budget by about 50%, too...but they’ll compromise and settle on 25%.
Mr.
Dionne Jr., goes on and on and on with more of this Democrat propaganda
that I’ve heard for six decades and is still as politically weak now as
it was back then.
I’ll let you debate him from this point on; I’m sick of his ilk.

It seems there was a slight miscalculation at the Treasury Department when they were trying to determine the total amount of Americans tax dollars were lost when Barack Obama decided to change General Motors to Government Motors. No biggie, though. Just an additional $10 Billion - with a “B” - of your dollars.
Let’s allow Shikha Dalmia to say “I Told You So”.
The Treasury Department yesterday revised its loss estimate for the Government Motors bailout from $14.33 billion to $23.6 billion, thanks to the company’s sinking stock price. GM’s Sept. 30 closing price, on which the new estimate is based, was $20.18, about $13 less than its December IPO price and $35 less than what is needed for taxpayers to break even.
The $23.6 billion represents a 25 percent loss on the feds $60 billion direct “investment” in GM. But that’s not all that taxpayers are on the hook for. As I explained previously, Uncle Sam’s special GM bankruptcy package allowed the company to write off $45 billion in previous losses going forward. This could work out to as much as $15 billion in tax savings that GM wouldn’t have had had it gone through a normal bankruptcy. Why? Because after bankruptcy, the tax liabilities of companies increase since they have no more losses to write off.
This means that the total hit to taxpayers, who still own about a quarter of the company, could add up to $38.6 billion. That’s even more that the $34 billion on the outside I had predicted in May.
Although GM will never, ever make taxpayers whole, taxpayer losses could be mitigated if GM’s stock price rises before the Treasury sells its remaining equity, something it was supposed to do by year-end but has postponed under the circumstances. But right now at least the prospects of a serious upward move in GM’s stock don’t look too good for reasons at least partly beyond GM’s control.”
Dell’s exit question: If we own 25% of GM, why can’t we all get a substantial discount on our own vehicles??

Beacon Power, a Massachusetts-based company that won praise from renewable power activists and loan guarantees from the federal government, has filed for bankruptcy, potentially leaving taxpayers on the hook for $43 million.
Loans Called into Question
The company, which promised to build storage devices for intermittent power produced by wind and solar power facilities, was never able to attract investors. Coming on the heels of the Solyndra bankruptcy and ensuing scandal, the Beacon Power bankruptcy has a growing number of people calling for an end to federal loan guarantees for risky alternative energy start-ups.
“I don’t think the government should be picking winners and losers for the private sector,” said Barbara Anderson, executive director of the Massachusetts-based Citizens for Limited Taxation. “Obviously, they’re not qualified.”
According to published reports, Beacon’s shares traded for $47 in 2005 but fell to $3.44 in February 2011 and less than $1 a few months later.
The company was cautioned by Nasdaq it was in danger of losing its listing. In late October, the price per share fell to just under 11 cents, leaving the company with a market value of $3 million.
“We take a pretty dim view of government getting too deeply involved in private companies and picking winners and losers,” said Steve Poftak, research director for the Massachusetts-based Pioneer Institute. “When they start to rend away from support at the early stage of development—at the science and research stage—and get into the balance sheets of companies, that’s [crossing the line].”
And we thought pensions would break the bank? At the rate they’re falling, the federal loan guarantee program might sink this ship any day.

Brent Baker, writing at MRC, suggests the media is so supportive of the OWS communist agenda that they’re seriously upgrading the descriptive adjectives.
Substitute ABC anchor David Muir opened Thursday’s World News by hyping “masses of people taking to the streets here in New York City,” before reporter Dan Harris referenced “this massive protest march tonight” and “this big protest.”
Yet over on the CBS Evening News, Jim Axelrod noted how though “organizers promised tens of thousands demonstrators disrupting business as usual here in New York,” they didn’t show up: “Frankly, we’ve seen a fraction of that number -- closer to a thousand.”
NBC came in somewhere in between with anchor Brian Williams touting “thousands on the move” and reporter Mike Taibbi acknowledging “the Occupy Wall Street movement had promised huge crowds for its day of action,” then asserting “that prediction finally looked realistic a short time ago. Now some 5,000 protesters, union members and supporters are gathered in Foley Square.”
Since when is a crowd of 5,000 “huge”?”
And Brent makes an excellent point. If just 5,000 showed up at this Sunday’s NFL game, you’d say “the place was empty”. Having considerable experience with crowds - large and small - I can tell you that “big” and “massive” are not even close to the words a responsible news agency would report. Turn on ANY major college football game this Saturday and you’ll see “big” and “massive” crowds - twenty times the size of this turnout.

As recently as this week, I posted a comment on another blog, suggesting that “it might be nice if all the Liberals moved to California and stayed there. They leave the rest of us alone and we’d leave them alone”. I made that comment very much tongue in cheek, but...
It’s more than obvious; the path we’re on right now - with communists strongly and openly attempting to exact a coup on the United States capitalist system and convert the federal government to a Marxist Socialist system - that this is headed for disaster. I’ve read many posts and comments by conservative Americans who are seeing the very same things and are preparing accordingly. “Powder Is Dry” is not a joke. For many, that type of statement indicates an expected escalation to the point of confrontation and the result would make world history. 1776 in reverse, as it were.
For purposes of discussion, take a look at what some others are openly suggesting....and then we’ll talk about it.

A little over two years ago I wrote an article in which I discussed the idea of letting the liberal elements in America go their way, and conservatives go theirs. At the time I felt that it was not a good idea, and that maintaining the union was the best way to go, all things considered. Link
Recently Dave Hunter sent me an article that he wrote on the topic, and after considering his proposals, I found myself thinking “You know, this may be the way to go after all—sort of a Red-state/Blue-state separation—an amicable separation, instead of a civil war.”
It is no news that the United States of America is a parody of the free republic that it was designed to be. Our Godless, rudderless Ship of State has morphed into a ship of fools, mismanaged by a glib crew of brigands and cut-throats—barbarians in three-piece suits. American culture is a moral wasteland that has exchanged restraint and virtue for gluttony and greed.
The infiltration, infestation, and indoctrination of America’s culture by elements inimical to decency, truth, and honor, has been going on for so long that a sizable percentage of the American public is, in effect, treasonous. I do not consider them to be my fellow countrymen, or women. I find listening to them a “fingers across a chalkboard” experience, and would just as soon live on a different planet, let alone in a different country. Compare the typical OWS mob to the people found at your average Tea Party rally, and you will have an idea of the sort of ideological divide that I am talking about. Link Link
I cannot begin to tell you how sick I am of the duplicity, phoniness, greed, and incessant whining of the liberal element in America. I am more and more tempted every day to simply say “Fine—you can have your country to run, and we’ll have ours.”
As a model of what such a liberal utopia would look like, what better place to pick than someplace where the liberals have held the reins of power for decades, where the unions are king; where multiculturalism is the law of the land. America has such a place—Detroit, Michigan. I suggest that you check into the housing market in Detroit; check out the crime rate, drug use, corruption, graft, and all around general destruction of this once fine city. Link Link Link Link
What the liberals have done to Detroit they do most everywhere that they go. The only reason that each and every liberal enclave has not imploded under the weight of liberal stupidity, greed, and cupidity is the constant influx of revenue from the more conservative and responsible (and yes, honest) citizens in America. These responsible citizens are not deemed forthright and upstanding by the liberals; they are considered reactionary chumps and suckers—rubes to be alternately stroked, flattered, used, and discarded as the situation warrants.
As I have mentioned before in my articles, either God exists, or God does not exist. There is no half-way—God does not sort of exist,” or sort of not exist. This being the case, someone is very, very far off track, and deluded to the point of mental derangement. I should mention that the vast majority of atheists are liberal.
Seeing as how atheists are the ones who overwhelmingly tend to embrace such concepts and “realities” as relativism, chaos, nihilism, narcissism, polymorphous perversity, and moral ambiguity, there will be no awards given for correctly guessing who the deranged ones are here. I do not honestly know if I have the stomach for any further “up close and personal” dealings with lunatic liberals anymore (there is no lunatic “fringe”—all liberals are insane to one degree or another. At best they are myopically deluded and spiritually stunted). Perhaps, as Dave Hunter says, a “divorce” would be best.”

Now I’ll “open this up to the floor” for debate.
Bearing in mind that a thought, a suggestion or idea should never become a knee-jerk reaction, what do you think of such an idea?
I truly believe the matter has reached the point where it’s serious enough to consider an alternative to civil war, but I would also caution those who believe this idea might be feasible, that convincing the other side to comply is probably out of the question. They want the WHOLE country - not just California (or however many states would be set aside for their form of government).
I’m not really in favor of my own idea! Mostly because there are millions of sane people who live in California and it wouldn’t be fair to just drive them out of their homes and ruin their “American dream” just to placate a band of communists. Incidentally, that wouldn’t be an issue for communists because under their form of government individual citizens have no rights and, therefore, would be forced to do what their government tells them to do.
Just one more point; over the past couple of years we’ve heard scuttlebutt involving the use of the word “cessation” - in Texas most predominantly.
Don’t be at all surprised to hear that word brought up again in the very near future. The very thought saddens me, but it’s reality and it might just come to that.

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon on Thursday held a successful test flight of a flying bomb that travels faster than the speed of sound and will give military planners the ability to strike targets anywhere in the world in less than a hour.
Launched by rocket from Hawaii at 1130 GMT, the "Advanced Hypersonic Weapon," or AHW, glided through the upper atmosphere over the Pacific "at hypersonic speed" before hitting its target on the Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands, a Pentagon statement said.
Kwajalein is about 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) southwest of Hawaii. The Pentagon did not say what top speeds were reached by the vehicle, which unlike a ballistic missile is maneuverable.
