BIG Media Spending In GOP Iowa Race
Perry Campaign May Be Biggest Loser
By Dell Hill
In
an earlier post I mentioned “money” as a major factor in political
campaigns and we have some data to support that fact, compliments of BuzzFeed. Up to date data, in fact, on what has been spent in JUST Iowa by the field of Republican candidates.
A
quick review of the chart below will give you an excellent idea of just
how costly it is to run for high office, and just how silly it is for
the also-rans to continue digging themselves into horrendous debt.
You’ll also notice that the amount spent doesn’t necessarily transfer
to votes. Rick Perry can testify to that fact.
And isn’t it surprising to see how little Michele Bachmann has spent?
And - mind you - this is just media spending on the Iowa campaign. Nowhere near the total dollars spent by each candidate.
“This
up-to-date data, from a Republican media-buying source watching the
race closely, illustrates just how little the candidates get from their
biggest expense, TV ads. There is an exception to this: Negative
television advertising did real damage to Rick Perry and to Newt
Gingrich. But positive advertising seems to have made little dent.”
